At EMA we start a LOT of VFDs , and on top of that, we help a lot of others start VFDs over the phone.
The difficulty of starting a VFD varies quite a bit from manufacturer to manufacturer. To be honest, it also varies quite a bit with the complexity of the application. If you’re not very familiar with starting a VFD and you’re trying to start a full vector controlled drive on a center-winder.. well.. good luck.. you’re going to need it. Or, call us to come do it for you.
Fortunately, MOST VFD startups are on fairly simple fan and pump applications, and are not especially difficult, even if you’re not a drive service engineer.
Many manufacturers have a “quick start” section of their manual. Some are better than others at this. We have a joke here at EMA that if you have to open two manuals to get a drive to run from the keypad, the design engineers should be shot!
Here’s how we’re helping.. notice over on the bottom right a little questions balloon.. you can actually talk to a technician right there to help you with basic startup questions on most brands of VFDs. We also have quite a bit of drive documentation that we’ll provide for you, just give us a shout.
In addition.. we’re in the process of doing some short videos showing the “quick start” methods on several drives. The first one we’re doing is the LS Drive (made by LG) . We’ll be happy to link you to those once they’re done.
If you have a more difficult VFD startup.. involving bus communication protocols, coordinated drives, or a hard application, you should have us on site. Again, just hit the balloon on the right and set that up.
We’re here to help you in any way possible on VFD startups. If you need to purchase VFDs, repair an existing VFD, or if you’re just lonely and want to talk with a drive expert.. get in touch with us. Your nearest EMA facility is on the bottom of this page.
No-One, Anywhere, is Better at drives than we are.. that’s not bragging.. its a measured fact..
