The Robicon Plasma Power Supply 405610 is an esoteric piece of equipment; it was not part of the Siemens’ purchase of Robicon, and it’s difficult to find repair. EMA is one of the few companies in the world that still services these units.(Siemens does not)

The Robicon Plasma Power Supply, in essence, produces a controlled plasma arc. The voltage is usually in the 600-800 Volts DC range. On a recent call we made to Canada, they were using this arc to produce industrial diamonds. They do this by running the plasma through a mixture of argon, natural gas, and other chemicals.
From a troubleshooting standpoint, the Robicon Plasma Power supply isn’t too much different than a DC Drive. They take 3 phase incoming voltage, and use SCRs (Thyristors) to control the voltage and current. The setup is not easy.
The boards have to be adjusted precisely, and that can be very difficult. EMA also repairs the circuit boards. Several other companies claim they do, but our experience with them has not been very good.
On a recent call, I was forced to actually draw the board schematic, and then troubleshoot and repair one of the logic boards that had already, supposedly, been repaired by another company. I found a bad transistor on the board, replaced it, and got the unit running.
