Repairing the Toshiba T300MVI Medium Voltage VFD

The Toshiba T300MVI medium voltage VFD is the top MV variable frequency drive in the country right now in terms of current sales. It’s the VFD we sell here at EMA. It’s reliable, very reliable. But, as with all complex equipment, it sometimes needs repair. Toshiba t300 MVI repairWe service a lot of medium voltage VFDs of all brands. Including, repair on the Toshiba T300MVI medium voltage VFD.

We think the Toshiba T300MVi Medium Voltage Adjustable Speed Drive is the most advanced medium voltage VFD in the market. In fact, we don’t think any other drive in the market compares. It has a PWM 5-level design, which allows for a smaller size, reduced component count and a lower cost. The T300MVi can use the existing motors and works with all power systems. In addition, it is one of the safest Medium Voltage Variable Frequency Drives on the market.

As a rule, once medium voltage VFDs are commissioned, they are rarely tuned. In the case of the Toshiba T300 MVI, that’s good because the interface is a bit difficult. They’re not alone in that. In fact, medium voltage VFDs are generally much more difficult to set up than their low voltage cousins.

Setting the Toshiba MV drive up, or changing the tuning, is not for the faint of heart, or the technically challenged. The keypad is not especially intuitive, and there are parameters that cannot be accessed by from the keypad.

Toshiba has interface software that allows a PC to communicate with the T300MVI, but like the keypad, it is not for the technically challenged. The interface software does allow access to all the otherwise hidden parameters, and is a great help in troubleshooting.

But, it can also provide frustration. The software often has difficulty loading and even after loaded, a windows or other update can render it inoperative. Here at EMA, we tend to use older laptops that have not been updated for use on this drive to get around those issues.

In most of the frame sizes for the Toshiba T300MVI medium Toshiba t300 MVI repairvoltage VFD, there are three separate inverter cells, one for each output phase. These cells can be removed, and either sent for repair, or replaced relatively easy (again, not a job for inexperienced people) .

The input section(s) are a number of diodes and fuses, that require quite a bit of work to replace.

Fortunately, component failures are relatively rare, because the T300MVI medium voltage VFD is well protected.

There are other failures you can run into, such as logic issues, cooling issues, and communication issues.

Medium Voltage Drive repair, on any brand, can be very dangerous and only suitable for experienced medium voltage technicians.

IF you have a medium voltage VFD needing repair, tuning, preventive maintenance, or replacement, then contact us by any of the methods on the right of this page, OR, call 770-448-4644.
