The Rockwell Powerflex 7000 is a rugged Medium Voltage Drive with a large and established footprint in the industrial world. This drive uses current source topology, which is not widely used anymore; current source topology has been around since the 1970s.
Recently, Rockwell announced that the Powerflex 7000 has reached its end of life and will be discontinued on March 31, 2027. The Powerflex 6000, a more modern voltage-source drive will be Rockwell’s primary medium voltage VFD going forward.
The notice given by Rockwell is vague on parts availability after the obsolescence date, so it is important to consider upgrading completely or purchasing additional critical spare parts before they are no longer available. The IGCT stacks and IGCT power supplies in particular may prove to be hard to procure after March of 2027.
