EMA has greatly improved our abilities to test large VFDs and to perform harmonic analysis. We have recently done this for a major VFD manufacturer, and a specific customer.
Some time back, EMA added a large generator and additional motors to allow us to do full load testing on most VFDs. We’re able to load at various speeds and load levels, all the while monitoring the VFD for problems.
With the increased interest in power line quality, and harmonic disturbances generated by VFDs and other non linear loads, EMA has improved our testing facilities to meet that growing need. Power quality remains a hot topic in many facilities, and expected to become more important as the power grids in the United States become more stressed.
In addition to that, in critical applications, it is essential to know that a VFD will in fact provide the current that the manufacturer claims without excessive heat build up or deterioration of performance.
EMA performs large VFD repairs. Part of that repair process i
s full load testing. A number of companies will claim to do this, but in fact, simply lack the facilities.
Proper VFD load testing and harmonic analysis is expensive, and requires a significant investment.
But, we think it pays off for our customers.
